We explore the problems and potential of OSL-dating in Sweden by analysing quartz-OSL-ages from several known-age sites in Sweden and by investigating their luminescence properties.Two difficulties in obtaining accurate and precise ages are incomplete bleaching and low-sensitivity quartz.Typically OSL techniques produce ages from one or two hundred years to about 400 ka with an error of around 10%.Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating is used to determine the (robust) chronology of the phases of sediment deposition and incision in a headwater sub-basin of the Yzeron Basin, France.Since the world is much older than this, most objects are already saturated.

Hence it underlines the increasing importance of the method to geomorphological research, especially by contributing to the development of quantitative geomorphology.
